about me

Hello! My name is Ella Gordon and I am a textile maker. Born, bred and based in Shetland, Scotland. I take my inspiration from the culture and history that surrounds me here. The unique surroundings and colours have always inspired my work, whether it was my family here, my culture or the strong textile heritage we have.

In 2012 I graduated from the Shetland College with a BA with Distinction in Contemporary Textiles, this blog mainly features my hand knitting and designing. I also work at Jamieson & Smith (Shetland Woolbrokers) a maker of Shetland Wool from Shetland.

This blog is a place for me to talk about my knitting (machine and handknitting), inspirations and life in Shetland as a contemporary textiles maker, I hope you enjoy reading it!

  1. Have just got round to reading my annual summary from WordPress and it says that lots of my hits come via your blog, so I just spent some time reading it. Thanks for the link and keep up the good work – I love both hand and machine knitting! And so interesting to hear what you’re up to in Shetland.

  4. Hello, my name is Lucia. Im from Spain. My grandma worked with a knitting machine when my mother was very little. My mother had that melancholy.

A couple of years ago I bought a silver reed sk280 knitting machine to entertain my mum. She was receiving a chemoterapy treatment. Also, the pandemic came and I couldn’t learn because I have been scared about to infect her.

I received knitting some machine classes last weekend. I have come to make straight and raglan sleeved sweaters (they are still a little flaws, hahahaha). I designed my own punch cards. .
I would love to know how to make the round yoke pullovers or simple sweater? Do you have patterns ? My size is between small and medium. The yarn that I have is 50% merino wool 50% dralón yarn set 2/28 (3-ply).I would just like to have a detailed guide in PDF for example, that I can follow step by step to make this type of jumper, even if the design is the most basic.
It would make me very excited. Thanks
